Subject: Most enjoyable show I've been to
While there are some sound issues, they don't really take away from the quality of the recording, which is fantastic.
The show really gets cooking during Helix->RLH->Helix with some fantastic interplay with Sammy and the rest of the band
Dublights was a treat, probably my favorite version that they've done
Astronaut is right up there with 10/5/02 as one of the best ever.
Do yourself a favor and listen to this show. It's a lesser known one, but is on high rotation for me.
Subject: Dublights and Astro, some other decent stuff
Jam > Ladies - The opening jam starts out very dark and psychedelic with lots of sweeping patches from Magner, and some middle eastern guitar from Barber. This is rather short, but really cool. The Ladies jam is pretty good. They seem to have trouble sometimes in this era making four-on-the-floor jams interesting, but this one does just that. Magner utilizes the angel choir and Barber keeps things interesting with an assortment of catchy riffs. The ending seems to come out of absolutely nowhere, and not in a good way. Rather sloppy ending.
Helix > RLH > Helix - There's really no segue between Ladies and Helix. At first, it sounds like Magner/Barber really want to do the Helix '02 jam progression and that Brownie is holding off and just laying on the root, but then he gets sucked in as well and they're off to yet another boring, choreographed Helix jam. When they finally get out of the rehearsed jam, they get into some really cool stuff. For a little bit, it almost sounds like they want to go towards Spacebird, and Barber plays a staccato riff very similar to the SBMC intro. Around the 10 minute mark the jam markedly changes, and turns much more major key. Some really pretty jamming, with a cool main riff from Barber and great communication with Magner. First RLH jam is pretty meh. Nothing bad, nothing great. 2nd jam in RLH is very good. Magner is on vibes patch, and they play a really cool jam. It starts out really happy/pretty and turns into a darker dance party jam, then gets happy again as it gets back to Helix.
42 > Dublights > Voices - Decent jam out of 42 that turns into a dub jam as they get near Dublights. Dublights is alright, I'm not a huge fan of it, but then again I'm not a huge fan of Floodlights. I guess I prefer Dublights, just cause the chorus is so cool in a major key. The jam in Dublights is fantastic. Fantastic. Easily my favorite from this show. Very, very pretty stuff for a little while once Magner busts out the flute patch. The jam gets a little stagnant for a little bit before the Voices switch, but still pretty good overall.
Shelby - I saw standalone Shelby and thought "I bet this won't be great." Surprise! It's not! Pretty boring jam for the first several minutes. The peak isn't all that impressive, but played decently.
Astronaut > 42 > RLH - Astronaut jam starts out very good. Middle eastern style jam, with Magner taking lead and playing some neat lines. Sort of has a laid-back middle eastern house jam feel to it. Pretty specific, huh? I really, really like this jam. Very patient jamming here. Virtually no jam in between the end of Astro and 42 or RLH.
Hope > Svenghali > Hope - Wow. I hate hearing poorly played Hopes. And this one is pretty sloppy at times. There's a big Pilin' it High tease from Barber, but other than that, the first part of this jam is pretty vanilla. The jam gets pretty cool as it gets closer to Svenghali. Svenghali is well played with a cool ambient portion between the end and the beginning before they start it up. The jam back into Hope is non-existent.
4 stars for subpar sound overall and not incredible highlights. Jam > Ladies, Helix > RLH > Helix, Hope > Svenghali are pretty solid but not worth re-listening. Dublights and Astro are fantastic.
Subject: get this show
Sound quality is crystal clear, albeit not much low end, overall a solid 8.5 out of 10 (for an aud source).
Definitely a solid show.
